As the editorial leader of this Emmy-nominated project, I tackled this question by telling the story through the experiences of the people who actually participated in the January 6 Capitol riot. The goal was to put the audience in each character’s shoes — not just for that tumultuous day, but for the journey of their lives.

The result was a deeply reported, uniquely immersive experience that focused on seven characters who emerged from the chaos, either as rioters or the stokers of the “big lie” and told their stories through compelling writing, interview clips, and their social media and videos.
